Webinar on business opportunities in Ivory Coast

Agriculture, industry, construction and public works (BTP), health and land transport are the most promising sectors that need to be promoted on the Ivorian market, within the framework of a strategic partnership, a indicated the CEO of the Export Promotion Center (CEPEX) Mourad Ben Hassine.
The official, who was speaking on Thursday at a webinar organized by the Confederation of Citizen Enterprises of Tunisia (CONECT International) on business and investment opportunities in Côte d’Ivoire, stressed the need to improve the means of access to this market within the framework of a strategic partnership.
According to Ben Hassine, agricultural or zootechnical inputs such as fertilizers, phosphate and derivatives, veterinary drugs, food supplements, and animal feed are products to be exported to the Ivorian market in addition to chemical components, equipment, packaging and related services (training, maintenance, etc.)
Regarding the health sector, it is growing strongly, according to Ben Hassine, with an evolving demand for drugs and food supplements. The same applies to construction, which remains an essential sector, through the export of building materials and related services (design office, architects, topographers, etc.)
The manager mentioned several other opportunities in the traditional export sectors, in particular the agrifood sector (frozen fish, cereal-based preparations, fruit and vegetable preparations, fruits, etc.), the miscellaneous industries sector (medicines, fertilizers, organic and inorganic chemicals) and the mechanical and electrical industries sector (electrical devices and components).
To develop Tunisia’s exports to Côte d’Ivoire, Ben Hassine believes that it is necessary to target the consumer directly, reduce risks and strengthen the competitiveness of products in addition to “the development of a promotion strategy based on clear objectives aimed at the customer and a long-term win-win partnership”.
With regard to Tunisian-Ivorian trade, the official pointed out that Côte d’Ivoire is a strategic partner for Tunisia, and the first customer in sub-Saharan Africa and the 3rd third on the whole continent after Algeria, the Libya and Morocco.
Tunisia is also the first supplier of Côte d’Ivoire in several products such as plaster, white cement, dates, and olive oil.
In 2021, a record export to Côte d’Ivoire was recorded with a turnover of 240 million dinars, an increase of 61%, according to the official.
“The increase in exports affected different sectors, mainly miscellaneous industries (phosphates, fertilizers, building materials, and medicines), followed by the EMI sector (cables, electrical equipment and consumables), and finally, the agri-food sector ( olive oil, dates, margarine, and biscuits)”.
Côte d’Ivoire is an importer of more than 1037 products, including hydrocarbons, equipment, mechanical and electrical appliances, medicines, fertilizers, frozen foods, and building materials. It is also an exporting country of cocoa (54%), fruit, precious metals, cotton, wood and coffee.
It should be recalled that the Webinar of Thursday, September 15, 2022, is part of the preparations for an economic mission, which will be organized, from December 4 to 8, 2022, by CONECT international in the Ivorian metropolis, Abidjan.
